The check fetches the page the way a crawler does and reads the head: the title and meta description, the canonical link, the robots and viewport lines, the language and character set, how many translations are declared, and up to 60 Open Graph and card tags.
It also counts the first-level headings and shows the first one, so you can check whether the page has a clear main heading.

A canonical link that points somewhere else, or a robots line carrying noindex, changes what happens to the whole page. The checklist names each one as a fact, and says what to change when it needs changing.
A tag can be present and still be wrong
A typo in a title can appear before someone opens the page.
A fixes ledger: each row names the page or tag, quotes the flagged text, and gives the correction beside it.

What are meta tags?
Lines in the head of an HTML page that describe the page to software rather than to a reader: the title, the meta description, the canonical address, indexing rules, the language, and the Open Graph and card tags that build a share preview. The title also appears in browser tabs. Search engines and sharing apps can use these values when they show a link.
How long should a title tag and a meta description be?
Use about 30–60 characters for a title and 70–160 for a description as writing guides. Display length varies by device and search result. A value outside the guide is a reason to review the wording, not proof of an error.
What does a noindex robots tag do?
It asks search engines to keep the page out of their results. That is correct on a thank-you page or a staging copy and a serious mistake on a page you want found, so the checklist always names it when it is there.
What is a canonical tag for?
It names the preferred address for this content. Search engines can use it as a signal when pages share the same content. The check compares the canonical to the address the page actually answered from and says when the two disagree.
Does it read tags added by JavaScript?
No. It reads the HTML your server sends, without running scripts. If your tags are written by a script after load, render them server-side instead.
Does it check the words in the tags?
